The 50th Reunion class of 1952 set a very high standard for the rest of the classes by bringing back a huge contingent of vigorous alums. We joined with the Central Texas Navy League to kick off the weekend, hosting the skipper of the USS Constitution, NROTC alum Cdr. Randall Neal. Friday morning, two foursomes of early risers overwhelmed the Golf Club at Star Ranch for a golfing outing highlighted by one golfer driving the green and putting for eagle. He missed, but we had a great time. Even David Wells got loose from Dell to play. We had parties at Austin Country Club and at Scholz's Garten. We tried to misbehave but there were no war stories worth repeating here.
The
annual business meeting highlights included election of a new slate of
officers and awarding scholarships to several deserving midshipmen.
Randall Neal provided a presentation on the USS Constitution. The
class of 1952 was out in force and General
Haynes regaled us with tales of the life of a Turkish cat. You had
to be there!
The BBQ gathering at Camp Mabry was one of the largest on record. Of course the food was great and this time we had plenty of beer. Way to go Max and Bob! The temperature was a bit warm and the logistics of setting up tables in the midst of the vehicles was rustic, but only the sober noticed. It sure beat freezing at Barton Springs. Take a look at a few pictures. |
