NROTC 2007 Reunion Weekend-29 September 2007 vs. Kansas State

We honored the 50th Reunion class of 1957

Thursday 27 September

We kicked off the weekend with the Central Texas Navy League.
Navy League Dinner and Program
.  Distinguished guest speaker was Dr. Thomas Hatfield, Director of the Institute for Studies of American Military History, UT Center for American History. Topic: WWII Personal Histories Interviews.

Golf Outing. We played at Circle C Golf Course in south Austin.  We had four foursomes and Bob Brown had a hole-in-one which we will never stop hearing about.  Otherwise, we raised some money for the foundation.  The scores were forgetable.

Parties-UT NROTC Alumni Dinner. This year’s UT NROTC Alumni Dinner will be a joint event, with our guests of honor, WWII veterans and the Class of 1957. As always, dinner will be at the Austin Country Club with cocktails at 1830, followed by dinner at 1900. The cost is $35. Dress will be “business casual”, i.e., dress shirt/slacks. Contact Ed Mergele at 713-294-4335 or Fred Moon at 817-681-1471 for details and last-minute changes. Directions: Go one mile south of the Loop 360 bridge over Lake Austin and take Westlake Dr. east. Go about 200 meters and turn left onto Long Champ Dr. and go to 4408 at the end. Call 512-328-0090 if you get lost. Reservations should be made on your Registration Form.

Informal Gathering. All year-group class members may also gather at Scholz’s Garden at 1900 for socializing. It will be up to us to keep Scholz’s from closing early on Friday evening.

Saturday 29 September

Board of Directors Meeting. 0900 in the Library on the 1st deck of the RAS ROTC Building.

Alumni Reunion Business Meeting. 1000, Room 2.304, Welch Hall, This was a switch, the first time we have convened out side the ROTC Bldg.  UT President William Powers spoke to the assembly.  He wore some really cool boots and generally dressed like a wealthy alum which is good.  He seemed to like his Naval service which we hope means he will ignore any bad behavior by Navy folks who happen to be on campus.

You can read in the newsletter about all the cool things that happened in the morning business meeting.  The most important statistic is that we awarded 10 scholarships and 2 swords.

Football Game: Kansas State vs. Texas was a miserable demonstration that UT really needs an offensive coordinator.  Yuck is the only printable word that can be used to describe the game.  On top of everything else, the Drury was packed with K State fans.

After the game we went out to a Mexican restaurant in North Austin.  Next near you should be there too.
