MIDSHIPMANS FOUNDATION
Always active and
aggressive with their support for the midshipmen currently in the
program, is the scholarship arm of the Alumni. The University of Texas
Midshipmans Foundation is a Texas charitable corporation with 501(c)(3)
status. Organized in 1970 by UT NROTC Alumni, the Midshipmans Foundation
currently focuses on financial aid to battalion members by annually
awarding significant scholarships to battalion members.
In 2008 the
Midshipmans Foundation will award five $2,000.00 scholarships and
sixteen $1,000.00 scholarships to deserving battalion members selected
by the NROTC Staff under guidelines provided by the Midshipmans
Foundation. In addition, three officer’s swords will be presented to
graduating seniors under guidelines provided by donors and the
Midshipmans Foundation. The current goal of the Midshipmans Foundation
is to build an endowment fund of $!,000,000.00 with which scholarships
totaling $50,000.00 a year will be awarded to battalion members to ease
the financial burdens associated with a first class education. All
Alumni appreciate the impact of such scholarships on the lives of
battalion members, remembering the days when they were in school and how
important financial help would have been if available.
